Description
This course
is designed to provide delegates with knowledge of the fundamentals of
Adobe PhotoShop and all the key skills necessary to achieve professional
results. Delegates will learn how to manipulate pictures and other graphic
elements within different page formats for both one-off and regular production.
Basic knowledge
A basic understanding
of computer graphics and some understanding of word-processing is desirable
but not essential.
Target audience
Intending, new
or less-experienced users of Photoshop, who wish to gain a good understanding
of the software in a short space of time. Plus others who wish to learn about
the scope of the software.
Duration
1 day or 2 days,
depending on the time available, which will change the level of depth and
quantity of exercises to be completed.

- Image
size and Resolution
- Scanning resolution and file size; Differences between raster and vector files.
Changing dimensions and resolution. Image input, display and output. Saving
files in different formats
- Interface basics
- The Toolbox and floating palettes. View modes and keyboard shortcuts. Navigation
palette. Tool options. Colour picker.
- Selection Techniques
- Selecting by shape and color. Adding to and subtracting from selections. Saving
selections. Feathering and anti-aliasing. Using Quickmask. Drag-copy a selection.. Using the Crop tool. Using the transform settings.
- Painting Tools
- Using the colour and swatches palettes. Standard brush options and custom brushes.
Linear and radial gradient fills. The eraser tools. Using vector shapes. Creating
vector styles.
- Retouching
- Cloning parts of images and selections. Repairing scratches. Using the smudge,
blur, sharpen and saturation tools. Using the History palette to undo multiple
steps. Linear and non-linear history. Using snapshots. History Brush for effects.
Adjusting the image with Levels, Colour Balance, Hue/Saturation. Compensating
with Variations. Colour changes with Replace Colour and Selective Colour.

- Creating and moving layers. Moving layers between documents. Using Adjustment
layers for editable changes. Changing layer opacity. Layer styles for special
effects; Using layer blending modes. Creating layer sets in complex artwork.
- Using Type
- Creating and editing text. Using type masks as a selection. Editable vs rasterized
text. Text distortion and warping.
- Special Effects
- Special effects with filters, including Blur, Sharpen and Distortion. Changing
the overall look with Artistic, Brush strokes, Sketch and Stylise filters.
- Recording Actions
- Recording sequences of actions. Replaying the actions. Creating sets of actions.
Inserting pauses and stops. Batch processing and creating droplets.
